Helga's research interests are:

  • Soil processes, mineral cycling, and nutrient transport mechanisms in wildland ecosystems
  • Carbon and nutrient dynamics in managed, natural, and disturbed forest
  • Effects of management, vegetation shifts and climate change on soil carbon storage and organic carbon quality in wildland soils
  • Pollution effects on soil-plant interactions and freshwater quality
