Biogeochemistry, ecosystem ecology, plant ecology, soil microbial ecology

Dr. Waring is a microbial ecologist with the goal of mitigating the effects of global climate change through gaining a predictive understanding of the ecological interactions that drive biogeochemical processes. To that end, she studies how plant and soil microbial communities mediate carbon cycling in a diverse array of terrestrial ecosystems. Some of her research focuses include: the role of microbes in the stabilization and cycling of soil carbon; tropical forest responses to climate change; and, plant-mycorrhizal interactions.
